Flentra Now Supports Offline Scanning

The Problem With Venue Connectivity

Anyone who has run events at Ugandan venues knows the challenge. The Wi-Fi that worked fine during setup disappears the moment 3,000 people connect their phones. Mobile data slows to a crawl. And suddenly your gate verification system — which depends on a live database connection — starts timing out.

This was one of the most common pieces of feedback we received from event organisers. The solution is offline scanning.

How It Works

Before your event, Flentra downloads a local copy of your entire ticket database to the device. When internet connectivity drops, scanning continues against the local copy. The system still validates tickets, still marks them as used, and still flags duplicates — all locally.

When connectivity returns, the app syncs all scan records back to the cloud. Your live dashboard updates, and the full scan log is available for your post-event report.

What This Means for Multi-Device Setups

If you're running multiple scanners at different gates, offline mode requires a small consideration: duplicate prevention works perfectly within each device, but cross-device duplicate detection requires connectivity for real-time sync.

For most events, this isn't a problem — attendees don't typically try the same ticket at two gates simultaneously. For very high-security events, we recommend maintaining at least one device on a dedicated mobile data connection to serve as the sync hub.

Availability

Offline scanning is available in Flentra version 2.1 and above on Android. Update your app before your next event to enable it automatically. No configuration required — the app detects connectivity and switches modes seamlessly.
